Please support SALEM-Ecuador in fighting the Corona Crisis

COVID-19 in Ecuador

Like everywhere else around the world, the Sars-CoV-2 virus is spreading also in Ecuador (currently about 30.000 documented infections). With its underfunded health system, the risk that the country can no longer adequately treat the seriously ill is, of course, much greater than in Germany, the rest of Europe or the US. Since the voluntary self-isolation of the population has not prevailed in some parts of the country, even after the health emergency has been declared, the government is taking increasingly stringent measures: Public transport has been closed. Hardly anyone can still go to work. Furthermore, a nationwide daily curfew from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. has been imposed.

Corona-Food Aid

We are currently most concerned about the economic and social situation of families. No work means no income. In our district, 70% of people live below the poverty line. Within a few days, a lot of families had nothing to eat. That is why we started an emergency aid program and distribute basic food to families in need. Fortunately, there are helpful people in the village who take part in this project: they gather food donations, drive to supermarkets and distribute all these donations to people in need. Up to now we could support more than 500 families, but our list keeps getting longer and longer every day.

If you would like to help us in this mission please donate for SALEM-Ecuador and our Food Aid Programme. Thank you very much!
