A medical camp recently held in SALEM, Uganda, has shown that there is a great need for an ophthalmology unit at the SALEM Hospital. The eye clinic in Mbale is usually overcrowded, and many patients are reluctant to make the journey there. We would therefore like to set up our own ophthalmology department at our hospital.
We spoke to our project manager Jonas Lange about what’s new at SALEM-Ecuador, how high the demand is for places at our children’s and youth centre, and how the centre is set to develop in the short and long term.
With many guests from near and far, pleasant conversations and a varied programme, SALEM-Kovahl’s 50th anniversary was celebrated and a generational change in leadership was announced.
The project to set up tree-planting clubs for children began in mid-May, following the school holidays. Schools in the local area have already been contacted, and discussions have taken place with all headteachers who expressed an interest.
Following the very positive response to our ‘Sprungbrett’ shared accommodation in SALEM-Stadtsteinach – demand is so high that all six places were already filled by March – we have decided to carry out a complete refurbishment of a vacant house on the SALEM site in SALEM-Höchheim, Lower Franconia.
