Our Shared Accommodation ‘Springboard’ Opens its Doors

Three days before the first residents officially moved in on 1 December, the grand opening of the SALEM shared accommodation facility took place.

SALEM has been offering outpatient assisted independent living for over 15 years. This service has now been expanded to include the shared accommodation, which enables young adults aged 18 to 35 with mental illnesses to live independently while receiving intensive support.

Managing Director Samuel Müller welcomed the guests. He described how, in early summer this year, team leader Sabrina Kolb-Hörteis approached him with the idea of a shared living community, which is probably unique in Upper Franconia in this form. She convinced him that it was particularly important to help young people who sometimes live in difficult family circumstances, are often isolated and hardly ever come to the fore. He was immediately enthusiastic about her concept, so they took immediate action and sought supporters.

He emphasised that the premises had been completely renovated and converted in almost record time so that the six residents who will find a new home here can feel comfortable and start a new future. He expressed his special thanks to the craftsmen involved, but also to everyone else who had worked hard on the project.

After the official part, guests were able to view the rooms, which are now ready for occupancy. In addition to six bedrooms, there are two bathrooms, a kitchen and a common room.

Work began immediately after the celebration to prepare for the arrival of the first two residents. The next residents will move in over the coming weeks and months, as demand is high.

Donations for the renovation and furnishing of the rooms are still very welcome.
