The Inauguration Ceremony Marked a Great Day for SALEM-Uganda

27.01.2025

On January 22, another important milestone was reached with the opening of the new building at SALEM-Hospital. Numerous visitors came to celebrate this event with us.

Denis Medeyi, Head of SALEM-Uganda, welcomed Dr. Alex Wasomoka, the Assistant Commissioner of Clinical Services, who had come to represent the Ugandan Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng. He thanked the German Doctors, the Ministry of Health, the local government of Mbale City and SALEM International, among others, for their support.

“This celebration marks the beginning of a new era of health protection in our region,” Medeyi noted, promising closer and more accessible medical services for the community.

Joseph Balisanyuka, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SALEM-Uganda, emphasized the need to upgrade the facility into a full hospital to guarantee medical care in the area and relieve pressure on other hospitals.

Dr. Alex Wasomoka commended SALEM and its partners for building a modern facility equipped with a functional operating and maternity ward. He encouraged stakeholders to come up with a plan to sustain the facility so that efforts to elevate SALEM hospital to a superior hospital will bear fruit.

In his welcome address, SALEM-Managing Director Samuel Müller talked about his first visit in 1994. Since then, he has been coming to SALEM-Uganda regularly and has noticed time and again that the village has been a center for people for 45 years now.

At the inauguration of the new wing, he thanked all those who had lent a hand and made it all possible.

“You have created great things. The difficult task now lies ahead: To keep and maintain the buildings and show people that they can be helped here. But there are wonderful doctors and nurses on hand and they will do their best.”

We are delighted with the success story of our SALEM hospital, which began as a small infirmary under a tree and has developed so well, and we would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the past decades.

This is how it all began in 1981.
