News from our Children's Village in SALEM-Uganda
17.10.2024
We recently received a report on the latest events from our dedicated social worker.
A total of 39 children and young people with disabilities are currently being cared for in the children's village. We offer them everything they need to live, from accommodation and clothing to medical care, as well as care and the opportunity to receive an appropriate education according to their abilities.
New Arrival
5-year-old Cyrus was apparently abandoned by his family and taken to the police by a compassionate fellow human being. After no one could be found to look after him, he was taken into our children's village.
He is a shy boy, but his condition has improved greatly and he now gets on very well with the other children.
Medical support for Mubarak
Little Mubarak was mistreated by his family. An untreated fracture in his right hand is still causing him some difficulties. He has been receiving physiotherapy three times a week for some time now, which has already improved the mobility of his hand.
Health Care
The children in the SALEM village receive high-quality medical care and, thanks to regular visits and examinations by a pediatrician, illnesses can be detected and treated quickly.
Special educational support
The training for the residents with disabilities continues to be carried out by a specialist who was hired specifically for this purpose and who works closely with the doctor and the social worker. They have all made great progress and are now able to wash themselves or make their own beds.
Many thanks to all those who support this program, which has had a very positive impact on the young people's live.
Social Ties
Belonging to a family is very important in Uganda and therefore we always try to maintain contact with the children's parents/relatives. During the Christmas vacations last year, some were picked up by their family members, which helped to lay the foundation for future reintegration at home.
Last year we successfully reintegrated 9 children back into their families and are pleased that they are doing well there. We keep in touch with them through phone calls and there are also visits to monitor their progress. The children continue to receive support.
What else happened?
Our garden has been enlarged so that we can grow even more food and vegetables. Last season we planted peanuts and beans, and also expanded our banana garden on the green belt and the nearby garden at the house.
We are also growing more fruits such as jackfruit and avocado in order to have an orchard that can also be a source of income for the children's village in the future.
Once again, we would like to thank everyone who tirelessly supports our children's village. Your continued help has often been instrumental in our success and we greatly appreciate your generosity towards the progress and continued positive development of the house.
If you would also like to support our Children's Village, you can do so by making a donation. We are happy about any help!
