"Anyone who says this world can no longer be saved ...

has forgotten that children mean hope."

This quote by the French writer Balzac makes a lot of sense when looking at the work in our Ugandan children's village. Time and again, seemingly hopeless cases are brought to us, but with medical help and care, they always make amazing progress.

Our social worker recently sent us a report on current events.

New Children

Some new children came into our care again, including two sisters (now 2 months and 3 years old) whose mother died giving birth to the youngest. They were both brought to the SALEM clinic malnourished and have recovered well over the past few weeks. The older one has also settled in somewhat and our team is doing everything it can to help her regain confidence after the loss of her mother.

Another older brother and sister (5 and 7 years old) were admitted with various health problems. Their condition has also improved greatly and they are now able to attend school.

Our employees are doing a  great job!

Everyone helps to the best of their ability

During the week, some of the children are not in the village and the others are busy at school, but at the weekend they help out around the house and with work in the garden and on the grounds.

Just like in a big family, everyone contributes according to their abilities. And everything is much more fun together anyway. In the end, the fruits of their labour, in this case bananas, can be eaten.

Having fun playing

Of course, there is also plenty of fun to be had. The children enjoy playing together in the playground, which is currently being renovated, or they go to our music centre, where they can switch off and recover from traumatic events in their past.

Eating together is also particularly important for cohesion.

A new look for our children´s village

The children's dormitories were given a new coat of paint and now look much more inviting. Thanks to a donation, some additional solar lights were installed on the grounds of the children's village, so that we now have better lighting conditions and are also less dependent on the electricity grid.

Future Plans

  • The buildings and facilities are to be further modernised in order to create a comfortable and safe environment for the children.
  • The children's educational opportunities are to be improved through programmes.
  • We need more staff to provide more individualised care for the children.
  • The agricultural sector should be expanded in order to reduce expenditure on food and generate income.
  • Contact with the children's families should be maintained and opportunities for returning them to their (extended) families should continue to be sought.

We would like to thank all donors and sponsors for their continued support!
