Who Are We?
The Brotherhood Salem is a non-denominational Christian non-profit welfare organisation, founded in 1957 by Gottfried Müller and a circle of friends in Stuttgart.
The name Salem stems from the Hebrew “Shalom“, meaning “peace“.
All of the Salem projects are affiliated through the shared values of peace, helping those in need and respect for life.
In this sense Salem is actively working in social hotspots in many countries (on 5 continents), to help people in difficult situations regardless of their beliefs or nationality.
Salem's foundation is a belief in the Bible as well as in human rights. Salem condemns extreme actions including right-wing extremist ideology.
What Does Brotherhood Mean?
Salem purposely calls itself a brotherhood. The word “brotherhood“ implies brotherly kindness and helpfulness towards oneanother.
The Brotherhood Salem is not a sect with its own religious followers.
As a nongovernmental organisation (NGO) Salem is almost entirely financed by private donations.
Would you also like to support Salem's work? The most convenient method would be through a secure online donation.
