Uganda
Since it was founded in 1981, SALEM-Uganda has been helping children and young people who have been orphaned, abandoned, neglected or abused.
This work is only possible thanks to the kindness of those who sponsor us and give donations to help with this work. There is no government social welfare scheme in Uganda to help children in need of care and support.
Who do we help?
- Children who have been orphaned, abandoned, abused or who live in poverty and need shelter because no one else is there to care for them. They can find a loving environment in which to grow in the SALEM Children and Babies Home.
- Children without hope of going to school are given help to access education. This includes funding books, uniforms and even a place at boarding school if this is the only option.
- Children in poverty in the communities surrounding SALEM-Uganda are given support to avoid the effects of malnutrition. We also provide essential items such as soap, bedding and clothing.
- Young people in need of help are given financial assistance to gain skills so that they can become self-sufficient and support their families. In recent years SALEM has supported the training of nurses, doctors, carpenters, builders and electricians. We also run our own school of tailoring.
