Basic health care and health education for a region of 45.000 inhabitants

For more than 30 years the German nurse Ursula Heimer has been in charge of a clinic in the small village of Agou-Nyogbo-Agbetiko close to Kpalimé in the south west of Togo. With the support of Salem and other donors from Germany, the basic healthcare and health education for a region of 45.000 inhabitants is guaranteed.

Without electricity but with only a few solar panels on the roof feeding the solar lamps and the small refrigerator for storing medicine, Mrs. Heimer and her three native co-workers are doing an excellent job. Every day they treat about 40 patients. Treatments range from AIDS therapy and smaller emergency operations to prescribing glasses.

A small extension even facilitates in-patient treatment over a longer period of time. Of course, the patient’s family must lend a hand in this situation, as is customary in Africa.
