News from SALEM-Togo
27.05.2011Our current project “Trees for Life” is making strides forward. In order to be able to build lodgings for foreign Project Workers we are in urgent need of a certain sum. Wouldn’t you like to help?
Here is the excerpt of a message which reached us by Gbati Nikabou, project manager in SALEM-Togo (Bassar):
“I am pleased to provide you with a status update on the progress of the SALEM project “Trees for Life”:
- The conference house is finished.
- The well and solar powered water supply has been completely installed.
- The fencing around the tree nursery is now in place.
- The irrigation system is already in full production.
With such great progress we are already planting seedlings and training programmes have begun.
In addition to our planned activities we would like to build on site lodgings for Project Workers to enable better cooperation with foreign Trainers and Instructors e.g. from Ghana.
Just to cover the distance of 30kms along the dirt track road from Bassar takes 90 minutes! Over time the lodgings will save a great deal of travel and accomodation costs!
In order to finance the lodgings we need a sum of 6,900 Euros. We need at least 500 Euros by the end of next week to ensure that the construction workers who are already on site can stay on and continue their construction work. If we wait too long the construction workers will be gone!
Much of the building materials are already on site so construction could begin at once. If all goes well and we can source the extra cement and wood – which is very difficult here in Bassar – the lodgings could be completed as early as the end of July.
We plan to celebrate the opening and inauguration of the full SALEM Environmental Education center at the seminar for natural medicine & ecological agriculture.
We would like to send a very big THANK YOU to all the SALEM friends who have helped us move closer to our goal of creating a SALEM Environmental Education center in Togo.”

Your continued support is greatly appreciated! Together we can make a difference.
