Interview with Grace Akol, nurse in SALEM-Uganda

02.12.2011Grace has been working as a nurse and as an AIDS consultant in SALEM Health Centre, Uganda, for many years. She also looks after families in the rural areas around SALEM-Uganda. When she visited Germany in the end of September 2011 we took the opportunity to ask her some questions.

During her time there she was working with Anamed International, a longstanding partner of SALEM’s, dedicated to empowering people to improve their health by using natural medicine in a safe and sustainable way. 19.09.2011We are very thankful that we were able to help in the severe famine in Uganda with the first donations which arrived very quickly. Recently we transferred a sum of 5,000 Euros to Uganda. Further urgent measures will have to be taken in the next weeks and months.

A mere drop in the ocean ...

10.08.2011… can mean a lot for those affected! In January there were only 5 children, but by June we saw 25 children between about two and four years suffering from malnutrition and exhibiting partly severe health problems.

Looking back at "A long weekend in SALEM"

20.04.2011Our annual gathering of SALEM friends took place from 7th to 10th April 2011. About 20 SALEM friends from all over the world found their way to SALEM-Stadtsteinach to spend a long weekend in our guest house, to take a rest from everyday life for some much-needed spiritual refreshment and prayerful walks along the Prophet’s Way.

SALEM tree planting

08.03.2011SALEM-Uganda has embarked on a three year tree planting project to mitigate the effects of, and assist local farmers to adapt to Climate Change. The goal is to plant one million trees in the region of Mbale (Eastern Uganda). SALEM is working in partnership with three other NGO’s in the region who are members of the ‘Mbale Coalition Against Poverty’ and are supported by Waterloo Foundation UK and the Welsh Assembly Government.
