New project in SALEM-Togo is making progress
04.01.2011With the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), SALEM-Togo has built a training center for sustainable land use. Along with an attached nursery the center contributes to making Togo a little greener.

Official opening in Kolonyi Health Centre in SALEM-Uganda

Salem Children's Village supported by sustainable food production
11.11.2010SALEM-Scotland has continued to provide valuable support for the Children’s Village in SALEM-Uganda.
One such project was to fund and manage the production of a documentary film about SALEM-Uganda and its commitment to sustainable development. Watch the film here.
SALEM-Togo completes drilling of water well!

SALEM-Uganda – Mitigating the Effects of Climate Change
23.09.2010SALEM-Uganda has embarked on a three year tree planting project to mitigate the effects of, and assist local farmers to adapt to Climate Change. The goal is to plant one million trees. SALEM is working in partnership with three other NGO’s in the region who are members of the ‘Mbale Coalition Against Poverty’ and are supported by Waterloo Foundation UK and the Welsh Assembly Government.

3:1 for SALEM-Togo! The German Government supports our plans for a new tree nursery!
02.07.2010What joy! The German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development has awarded SALEM a grant of 35,000 Euros towards the cost of establishing a tree nursery in Togo. This will cover three quarters of the total costs, leaving a balance of 12,000 Euro for us to find. Alone, an impossible task, but together, we can do it!

Inauguration of the SALEM-Uganda School of Nursing
11.06.201012 May 2010 saw the inauguration of the SALEM-Uganda School of Nursing following the completion of the first phase of construction. Many sponsors from home and abroad made the journey to the celebrations and in doing so marked the beginning of the first year of training for the initial intake of 40 students.

Devastating landslide in Uganda - please help the forgotten children!
03.05.2010Not far away from the SALEM village in Mbale, only 20 km by air, a terrible tragedy happened on the evening of 1st March 2010 in the Mount Elgon region in the East of Uganda: a massive landslide of mud, soil and rocks came crashing down and buried the whole village underneath. The force took everything in its path and covered it with a layer of mud some 8 metres high. That evening, 350 people lost their lives, 100 of them were children.

SALEM on the road to Sudan
08.12.2009Many people in Southern Sudan are living in poverty. That is why SALEM is going to send two co-workers to Sudan to find out what projects might help in the rebuilding of this region and improve the living conditions of people there. This may mean help for children through the provision of education, out-patient services for those who are ill, preventive health care and any other measures that would improve the situation there.
